Hi! May I ask if you make up your own phonetic spellings? I find it so clunky to spell Irish words according to English phonetics. They lose all their subtletly of sound. Do you find it frustrating?
cinnte, yeah, usáidim cinéal meascán de mo chuid foghraíocht féin agus saghas foghraíoch Béarla. sin fíor, domsa féin, ar aon nós, tá sé deachair chun gach rud a cur i bhfuaim ceart. millean sé na focail beagáinín measaim! ba aoibhinn liom IPA a usáid ach ní doigh liom go bhfuil tuiscint ag gach éinne faoi. go raibh míle leis an céist íontach suimúil, bhris sé suas an lá leadránach atá agam anois!
yeah, i use a kind of mix of my own phonetics and sort of English phonetics. that’s true, for me, anyway, it’s difficult to make the right sound for everything. it butchers the language a bit i think! i’d love to use IPA but i doubt many people have an understanding of it. thanks for the very interesting question, it broke up the boring day i had!
